Chapter 2: Omg These Ppl Are Such Yuppies

Lady Chatterley's Lover - D.H. Lawrence, Laura Bonds

Connie's husband comes back from WW1 all blown up to bits and the bits grow back together (gross, Lawrence. overshare) and he's all paralyzed from the waist down, so.... yknow... no heirs... So they move to his family estate cuz he's an aristocrat and just living in your house is an appropriate career choice apparently. His estate has a coal mine that rains down ashes like "black manna from skies of doom," which is just an amazing thing to read. Life at the estate has problems.

a) black manna from skies off doom

b) Connie and cliff are uppity yuppies. The townsfolk are ugly and mean and don't don't curtsey or smile at Connie or cliff cuz of social hierarchy issues.

c) the house staff is old and ugly, too. Literally nothing ab the town or house makes Connie happy.

d) cliff miiiight be a sociopath. He sees ppl as objects to be studied, but never makes emotional connections and he needs a lot of praise.

Cliff decides he's a writer. He gets published and kinda popular. Even though he and Connie can't... Yknow... They get along really well when they're collaborating on stories together. Connie's dad, super hippie artist know it all, says his work "won't last" and Connie's like SO?! Ppl like it now! You just don't get him like I do!" And really, she just doesn't want anyone telling cliff cuz then he'll throw a bitch fit.

but main problem w these ppl is all their yuppie crap. I don't like this house lemme do NOTHING ab it. My husband doesn't connect w me physically or emotionally but he sounds smart, so whatevs. Everything ab her life has "no touch, no contact" and as long as  no one talcab it, it's cool.

bluhhhhhh.... Can you see where this is going?

Chapter 1: Lemme Just Catch Y'all Up

Connie and her sister have hippie parents and go to art school and get boyfriends and party hardy in college and the book is all into tellin you ab how the sisters are in contol of their boyfriends cuz boya are dumb babies haha... but it dont matter cuz WW1 breaks out and their bfs blow up. Hilda, Connie's sister marries a guy w a government job w them good benefits and is all smart and junk. Connie's all whatevs ima focus on my career (single gurl says whaaat?). Clifford is all aristocratic w land and junk and his dad is all super fancy and wants an heir, no lie like downton abbey, and his son to run the mines and tend the estate but clifford is like ugh this is lame, and his dad is like no but for real i want mah grandsons. Cliffs dad is also like super patriot and sends him to WW1 and cliffords like war sucks, I need a girlfriend. So him and connie they get married cuz what else they got goin on and he goes to war and gets blown up and in a wheelchair and his brother dies and bam, no heir.

Banned Books Week!

In celebration of banned books week, I will be reading Lady Chatterly's Lover and posting "oh no she di'int!" statuses to my Facebook and twitter As well as barfing out my opinions of the book as I go on here. My sister is reading it with me, so I'm super excited for all our hilarious drama conversations, highlights to be posted here, of course. If you'd like to read along w us, the book is only $.99 for the kindle.

I'd like to read 2 - 3 banned books this week, depending of how fast I get through them and what all I gave going on this week. I'm taking suggestions, so send me your smuttiest, most controversial reads.

For those who are up to a real challenge, Harry Potter is the most banned book in America and there's 7 books and 7 days in Banned Books Week. My husband is attempting this great feat. He reads crazy fast, but we'll see if he can finish considering he started at the very end of day 1. In our house, banned books week is just gonna have to be Monday-Sunday.

Tell censorship to stick it where the clip-on book light don't shine and read whatever the hell you want this week!

WOOT!!

Reblogged from BookLikes:

Good news for those who like BookLikes and Goodreads and want to stay active on both. Now you can synchronize your Goodreads profile with your BookLikes webpage. Just connect your GR account in Booklikes Settings/Import and fill up your both bookshelves at one go from your BookLikes webpage.

To synchronize your Goodreads account with your BookLikes webpage, follow these two steps:

1. Go to Settings/Import and connect your Goodreads account.

2. Enjoy shelving and reviewing books on BookLikes and have them published on both sites.

BookLikes -> Goodreads synchronization includes:

  • adding books to shelf,
  • adding shelves,
  • posting a review,
  • rating books.

Once you do one of those things on BookLikes, they will be published on your both sites: here on your BookLikes webpage and on your Goodreads profile. Please note that during this process we're dependent on Goodreads technology and some synchronization delays concerning adding books on your Goodreads shelf and posting a review may occur.

Please remember that BookLikes -> Goodreads book match is possible thanks to ISBN. If the book lacks the number or is unavailable on Goodreads with the given ISBN, it may not appear on your Goodreads bookshelves.

The synchronization will be active from the moment you connect your GR account on BookLikes. If you would like to fill up your BookLikes profile with your past book entries from Goodreads, you can do that by importing your csv file from Goodreads with your book collection, bookshelves, reviews and ratings in Settings/Import. If you have any questions, check our FAQ site or write to us

Walk Two Moons - Sharon Creech

BEST BOOK OF MY CHILDHOOD!!!!! Seriously, I wouldn't be the reader I am today, had I not read this book. I almost didn't and that's a alternate reality I'm glad I didn't end up in. Read this book if you're ten or twenty or 99. Learn how to accept change and yourself and roadtrips with your grandparents.
